Ras al-Khaimah is one of the seven absolute monarchies members of the United Arab Emirates, to which it was the last to be adhered in 1972. It is composed of two territories of a total surface of 1.700 km² and counts approximately 195.000 inhabitants. The emir reigning since 1948 is Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammad Al-Qasimi.
