The emirate of Fujairah :

At the contrary of other emirates, it is located on the coast of the Gulf of Oman, and thus never could practise the fishing of the pearls, water being colder than in the Arabo-Persian Gulf. The principal resources were thus a long time agriculture and fishing, it is not a question of an oil emirate, but the principal activity is currently harbour, Fujairah which can accomodate containers, with for advantage that that avoids with the boats having to cross the strait of Ormuz. Projects of development of tourism are being studied. The current emir is Sheikh Hamad ibn Muhammad ash-Sharqi, since 1974.
