The emirate of Abou Dhabi counts 1,591 million inhabitants for a surface of 67.340 km², that is to say 86,7% of the total surface of the country without counting the islands. The density of inhabitants to the km² is estimated at 23,6. The town of Abou Dhabi founded in the years 1760 and was built on an island in the Arabo-Persian Gulf. Today, it is connected to the continent by two bridges "Al Maqta" and "Mussafa". The city becomes in 1795 the residence of the leaders of the emirate of Abou Dhabi. Following the discovery of oil layers in the area in 1958, she experiences a spectacular development with in particular the arrival of many Asian immigrants working in oil industry. The city becomes temporarily the capital of the federation in 1971 and definitively in 1981. Thus, Abou Dhabi is at the same time capital emirate éponyme and Federation. Today it is the principal money market and oil of the area. The majority of the oil companies are localised in Abou Dhabi. The city profits from infrastructures harbour (Port Undermined Zayed) and air (international airport Abou Dhabi).
